A 30-second daily lung-health routine: device, travel case and refill system

Climatic is a New York-based environmental health company on a mission to make caring for your lungs as routine as hydration, sleep, or recovery.

Its first product, L Max, is a 30-second daily routine - a proprietary dry powder formulation delivered through the L Max device, with refill blisters supplied by monthly subscription.

I worked with Climatic and their device technology partner to design the L Max device and travel case, taking it from research through to industrialisation hand-over.

User journey mapping

I co-facilitated a three-day concept generation workshop with Climatic and the device technology partner's engineers. The user journey was mapped ahead of the session, framing its pain points into four design challenges.

The Climatic brand identity, led by Creech, was translated into the device's form, colours, materials and finishes - balancing technical precision with a human, organic quality.

Physical prototyping

The lead concept was refined through successive reviews with stakeholders and users, resolving the ergonomics of the mouthpiece, cover, side drawer and blister handling.

Travel case concept development including the L Max device

A protective cocoon, not an accessory

The travel case builds on the established form of the device - offset surfaces carry over its signature, so the case reads as a protective cocoon. Finishes signal how each part is handled: matt, tactile surfaces where the user grips, and a gloss mouthpiece to emphasise hygiene.

Blister storage

Storing the blisters

Blister storage was explored as an open well, individual slots, or a well beneath an elastic mesh. Three layouts then set the blisters below, beside or opposite the device, trading footprint against thickness.

Construction follows established carry-case practice: a moulded EVA or plastic shell laminated with durable fabric, lined with microfibre to protect the device.

Straight edges meet softly rounded ends to create a distinctive signature that carries through to the travel case.

Engineered for manufacture

The designs were handed over to the device technology partner for industrialisation - reducing part count, building function into the mouldings and simplifying assembly for mass production.

Launched as a complete system

Working as one close-knit team across user experience, industrial design, delivery engine integration and manufacture, the resulting device opens a product category that did not previously exist.
