About

Industrial design & user experience consultant, a few miles outside Cambridge.

For over 20 years I have helped forward-thinking clients find the best path to success through strategic design. I have a passion for designing products and experiences that improve people’s lives.

To do this I employ human-centred design, advocating for the user throughout development to deliver simple, elegant and desirable solutions. I design physical products, digital UX, packaging and printed instructions to create harmonious user experiences.

Working with clients across the UK’s leading MedTech hubs - Cambridge, Oxford and London - and worldwide, I draw on a trusted network of human factors, mechanical and software engineers. My background in medical device development means I can work effectively within clients’ ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 quality systems.

Frequently asked questions
Project onboarding
How do we get started?

Start by getting in touch to schedule an initial meeting about your project. I will then prepare an outline proposal covering the scope, approach, milestones, deliverables, timelines and cost estimate.

Projects usually begin with a kick-off discovery meeting to understand your product, users, technical constraints and business goals. This creates a clear plan and gives you visibility as the product develops.

How do you manage timelines?

Work is planned by task and phase, with estimated time and cost allocated to each activity. The process is iterative, with review touchpoints built in so you can provide feedback throughout the project. If your team needs more time for internal decisions, the plan can be adjusted and activities re-sequenced where possible.

Can we pause or stop the project between phases?

Yes. Each phase ends with a review point, giving you the option to pause, refine the scope, or stop before committing to the next stage.

Are there any additional costs we should budget for?

My fees cover the design and development work I deliver. Depending on the project, you may also need to budget for external costs such as:

  • prototype model making
  • human factors testing
  • travel (if required)
  • third-party engineering or manufacturing support

As a guide, I often recommend a contingency budget of around 20% for external costs.

Who owns the intellectual property?

You do. Once the project is complete and final payment has been made, I provide a formal handover of the agreed design files and documentation - typically CAD data, design outputs and supporting documentation for engineering or manufacturing handover.

Working together
Do you work with start-ups as well as established companies?

Yes. I work with start-ups, scale-ups and established companies, tailoring the process to your stage - whether you need early concept direction, investor-ready visuals or detailed product development support.

Can you work with our in-house engineers or external partners?

Yes. I regularly collaborate with internal engineering teams, manufacturers and specialist suppliers, and can lead the design work or integrate into an existing development team.

Do you only work on medical devices?

My focus is life sciences and MedTech, with experience across surgical, medical device, drug delivery and diagnostics projects.

Helping you design easy-to-use medical devices for a complex world.
